FTC Orders Marriott and Starwood to Implement a Robust Data Security Program (ftc.gov)

Why is the FTC focused on hotels instead of healthcare? Change Healthcare, a subsidiary of United Health, leaked the medical records of 100 million Americans because they didn’t even have two factor authentication for employees. It’s unbelievable and so deeply harmful. And yet this story has been completely ignored by news media and politicians never said a word.

The FTC is the Federal Trade Commission. They care about more than just healthcare. They're big enough that they can run more than one case at a time.

So if there's a problem with Marriott, the FTC should be addressing it. They should also be addressing Change Healthcare, but you're not hearing about it in this article, because this article is about Marriott and Starwood.

They really aren’t. They have limited money, time, and staff. They should focus on important cases. Obviously they can’t do everything, since they’ve taken no action in numerous other worse situations.

Limited time, money, and staff? Of course. It's a finite universe, and a finite federal budget.

Too limited to be able to take on Marriott and Change Healthcare at the same time? No way.
