When kids are young, praise for process/effort rather than the outcome.


IMO that applies for adults too.


As professionals though, you are paid by outcome not process.

If plumber comes and works hard but doesn’t fix my problem, I won’t be praising them no matter how hard they worked.

Process must be internally valued by a professional so they can keep improving their craft, but no one will reward you for it until you show results.


True, in a commercial transaction, but within friends and family, praising effort is still important.


Wow, you must have worked really hard on your physical appearance today.
