Everything humans do is about culture. (Not to be confused with the arts.)

As a non-European who sometimes reads EU news, I think this is spot on. If you're a politician in Europe, the real goal is a position in your national government or parliament; the EU institutions are nothing more than a consolation prize, and so they're full of marginal opinions, also-ran politicians, disgraced former ministers, etc.

Ethical difference? This is South America we're talking about. The ethical difference has been working against the US this whole time.

As far as French palaces go, I liked Fontainebleau way more.

Somehow it's so cute that the name of the app is, well, a name.

I think it’s a reference to Alan Dye, who screwed design and usability of xOS 26 so epically that an app like Alan became necessary.

That was my first thought too! but then realised Allan Border has a double L, while the app's name is "Alan"

In reading more from this guy's blog, he also wrote a game called "Steve".

https://stevethegame.com/

Has he also written a Dan?

I believe it's named after a guy who likely influenced the direction of the macOS UI such that this app's development was necessitated in the first place.

Maybe derived from “a line”?

As an Aussie, I assumed it was a reference to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allan_Border

My understanding it's a reference to Steve Coogan, who played Alan Partridge, who in one episode sees a friend called Dan, and starts shouting his name, but Dan doesn't react. Alan proceeds shouting: Dan! Dan! DAN! and eventually gives up. This scene was later parodied in a BBC programme about animals, where one animal shouts Alan! Alan! ALAN! and then realises the name's wrong: STEVE!

TIL that Jenkins was only released in 2011. Feels like it's been around since forever.

If you're like me, in your mind Hudson and Jenkins are the same thing, so maybe you started using "Jenkins" before 2011 when the renaming happened!

2011 was a huge year for tech/devops. I feel like so much of what we do now started right then for some reason.

I think that might be because it was called Hudson before that I believe.

Unless that was a different project altogether?

Same project, rebranded around Oracle. Basically MySQL/MariaDB without the alliteration.

Nice racism you've got here.

Wasn't meant to be racist, but a subtle joke at the fact that many MAGA and russian-appreciating posts on twitter happened to be backed by indian users, and that was discovered thanks to a short-lived new feature. Not sure why that would be racist.

The UAE has an awful climate. Germany is in the EU, with all of its drawbacks. Canada is far away and expensive. (But yes, these are popular.)

So a female werewolf would be a wowulf then? Cool!

There is discussion on whether wer/e usage in werewolf has further/other roots, but assuming consensus landing on my GP, then yes!

wodude

My understanding is, it's a worm that injects itself into the current package and publishes infected code to npm.
