As a non-European who sometimes reads EU news, I think this is spot on. If you're a politician in Europe, the real goal is a position in your national government or parliament; the EU institutions are nothing more than a consolation prize, and so they're full of marginal opinions, also-ran politicians, disgraced former ministers, etc.
I believe it's named after a guy who likely influenced the direction of the macOS UI such that this app's development was necessitated in the first place.
My understanding it's a reference to Steve Coogan, who played Alan Partridge, who in one episode sees a friend called Dan, and starts shouting his name, but Dan doesn't react. Alan proceeds shouting: Dan! Dan! DAN! and eventually gives up. This scene was later parodied in a BBC programme about animals, where one animal shouts Alan! Alan! ALAN! and then realises the name's wrong: STEVE!
Wasn't meant to be racist, but a subtle joke at the fact that many MAGA and russian-appreciating posts on twitter happened to be backed by indian users, and that was discovered thanks to a short-lived new feature. Not sure why that would be racist.
