Really cool! On iOS there's a noticeable delay when clicking the buttons and clicking the backspace button quickly zooms the page so it's very hard to use. Would love it in mobile friendly form!

This looks really nice but I was burned by another free form service (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=16466147) that just disappeared without any notice.

I ended up switching to using a Google script which I've been happy with so far: https://github.com/dwyl/learn-to-send-email-via-google-scrip...

Ditto. https://www.palabra.io/forms/ was around here a few weeks ago and I just started using it when it went missing/broken.

I’ll try your google solution, thanks

I tried to sign up but couldn't get past the street sign captcha. I tried three times... Google is making it hard these days.

I'm sorry about that, I will investigate why this is happening. Feel free to email support@peapods.com, and we can add you manually to the list.

Had the same problem on another site. Are you using firefox on linux? In Chromium it works.

Using 'data-area' requires modifying the html so it is not a css only approach. This is a fairly big turn off for me.

You can use any selector to apply the grid, that data-area can be replaced with a class you already have.

I tried https://www.freetaxusa.com this year since I dislike Intuit so much for their lobbying. The site works very well and has a pretty similar flow to TurboTax except no auto import of financial account info.

I'm not sure the trustworthiness of the company/site. I didn't see any red flags in the privacy policy but would love to hear from others if they've used this.

I've just filed my taxes yesterday with them since TaxAct decided to jack up the price to $80 for federal + state (used to be $30 back in 2011)

Seemed very straightforward, perhaps not as good on the suggestion front as far as potentially reducing your tax burden though.

They also managed to import my prior tax PDF from TaxAct flawlessly, so that's a plus.

Here's my favorite example of that:

http://blog.chriszacharias.com/page-weight-matters

YouTube increased the efficiency of their site which ended up increasing average page load time - more people across the globe could now use the site when before it was too slow to bother with.

250KB -> 100KB

Youtube use would have to be > 2.5 times as big after for the resource usage to have actually grown.

Not Jevons paradox's, not sure what to call it.

Not really, because users with a high page load time can skew the average by a very large amount.

Hypothetically, let's say that previously they had 10 users who all took 2.5 seconds to load the page, so their average page load time is 2.5 seconds. After the change, those users all drop to a 1 second page load time. They also attracted one new user who now only has to wait 20 seconds instead of 50 seconds. Their average page load time is now 2.7 seconds but their usage only increased by 10%.

or, since we're talking about an average, not median, they attracted one new user who is now prepared to wait a very long time

Very cool results. Seems like with some extra human intervention this would produce very good results.

Shameless plug: I built an online tool to colorize photos using WebGL. It's all manual but it's easy to get started and doesn't require any additional software. http://www.colorizephoto.com

Awesome site! I like the Clint Eastwood "Color Picker" :)

I just saw the front page post about automatically colorizing photos (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10864801) and thought I should share this website I built a couple years ago. It allows grabbing color from a reference photo and painting it onto the black and white image you wish to color. It was a fun learning experience and can make some pretty convincing photos with a bit of patience.

Apple recently checked in support for touch-action: manipulation

Another great article highlighting how often software gets it wrong is here: http://www.4p8.com/eric.brasseur/gamma.html
