When I enter a building, I know that an engineer with a degree, or even a team of them, have meticulously built this building taking into account the material stresses of the ground, the fault lines, the stresses of the materials of construction, the wear amounts, etc.
When I make a program, I do the same thing. Either I make something for understanding, OR I make something robust to be used. I want to trust the software I'm using to not contain weird bugs that are difficult to find, as best as I can ensure that. I want to ensure that the code is clean, because code is communication, and communication is an art form — so my code should be clean, readable, and communicative about the concepts that I use to build the thing. LLMs do not assure me of any of this, and the actively hamstring the communication aspect.
Finally, as someone surrounded by artists, who has made art herself, the "doing of it" has been drilled into me as the "making". I don't get the enjoyment of making something, because I wouldn't have made it! You can commission a painting from an artist, but it is hubris to point at a painting you bought or commissioned and go "I made that". But somehow it is acceptable to do this for LLMs. That is a baffling mindset to me!

All of these questions are irrelevant if the objective is 'get this thing working'.
You seem to read a lot into what I wrote, so let me phrase it differently.
These are ways I'd suggest to approach working with LLMs if you enjoy building software, and are trying to find out how it can fit into your workflow.
If this isnt you, these suggestions probably wont work.

That's not what I said. It's about your primary goal. Are you trying to learn technology xyz, and found a project so you can apply it vs you want a solution to your problem, and nothing exists, so you're building it.
What's really important is that wether you understand in the end what the LLM has written or not is 100% your decision.
You can be fully hands off, or you can be involved in every step.

The majority of the work on a lot of famous masterpieces of art was done by apprentices. Under the instruction of a master, but still. No different than someone coming up with a composition, and having AI do a first pass, then going in with photoshop and manually painting over the inadequate parts. Yet people will knob gobble renaissance artists and talk about lynching AI artists.

It's true that many master artists had workshops with apprenticeships. Because they were a trade.
By the time you were helping to paint portraits, you'd spent maybe a decade learning techniques and skill and doing the unimportant parts and working your way up from there.
It wasn't a half-assed, slop some paint around and let the master come fix it later. The people doing things like portrait work or copies of works were highly skilled and experienced.
Typing "an army of Garfields storming the beach at Normandy" into a website is not the same.

I could have spent a lot of time reading the docs to understand the Web Bluetooth API and facing up to the stress that getting anything with Bluetooth working with a PC is super hit and miss so estimating the time I'd expect a high risk of spending hours rebooting my computer and otherwise futzing around to debug connection problems.
Although it's supposedly really easy to do this with the Web Bluetooth API I amazingly couldn't find any examples which made all the more apprehensive that there was some reason it doesn't work. [2]
As it was Junie coded me a simple webapp that pulled R-R intervals from my Polar H10 heart rate monitor in 20 minutes and it worked the first time. And in a few days, I've already got an HRV demo app that is superior to the commercial ones in numerous ways... And I understand how it works 100%.
I wouldn't call it vibe coding because I had my feet on the ground the whole time.

I build a lot of custom tools, things with like a couple of users. I get a lot of personal satisfaction writing that code.
I think comments on YouTube like "anyone still here in $CURRENT_YEAR" are low effort noise, I don't care about learning how to write a web extension (web work is my day job) so I got Claude to write one for me. I don't care who wrote it, I just wanted it to exist.

You can bet that "AI" is coming for this too. The lawsuits that will result when buildings crumble and kill people because an LLM "hallucinated" will be tragic, but maybe we'll learn from it. But we probably won't.
Since I found with searchable app menus / start menus that I don't ever navigate through menus but just start typing, I ditched the menu entirely and have KRunner bound to the Win key. Not only is it fine with any desktop app GTK or not (that packagers have ensured will install with its FreeDesktop metadata file or some such), it supports all the enabled KDE Search plugins. So I don't ever open a calc app again, either..

The newest release of bitwarden absolutely sucks. The images that they're using look AI-generated (specifically, there's some weird stuff around line thickness, colour and shading that, as the spawn of two artists, I do not believe a competent artist/designer would make), but also the images are just pixellated and grainy on my 1080p screen. The design has gone from "clean and usable" to "utterly dogshit", and the response time has gone down the pan.
For domain registration I recommend netim, as they neatly reduced the price that I pay from £30 down to £5, which made a huge difference personally.

Quite right! I really don't blame you, given the direction that Windows has taken in the last decade, and especially the last few years. The LLM integration is bad enough (Kids and LLMs should not mix, IMHO), but he adverts in the start menu could be anything. I've had some very explicit 18+ adverts on a social media platform twice this week, despite not engaging with that kind of thing at all, and the best I could do was report them.

Also, memorizing flashcards is actually, to some point, learning the material. There's a reason why Anki is popular for students.
Ultimately, however, this comes down to the 20th+21st century problem of "students learning only for the test", which we can see has critical problems that are well-known:
Maybe it's different for higher education, but at least for my more memorization-centric high school courses (religion, science, civics), I find that I get good-enough grades by just feeding ChatGPT the test reviews and having it create Anki flashcards, making a few edits[1], and then reviewing them for a few weeks prior to the test on the toilet, bus, before bed, etc. If they're inaccurate, somebody should probably let the test know. So far it's been enough to bring my grades from low to mid 80s to high 90s. Spending an extra hour or two to squeeze out another 1 or 2 percentage points just doesn't seem worth it. I don't personally think that it's cheating, because IMO how I decide to study for the test is of no concern to the teacher, as long as I'm not getting outside help during the test itself[2].
A feeling I've been having a lot recently is that I have no idea why I actually want good grades in school. When I was a kid, I was told that life went:
good grades in high school -> good university -> good job -> lots of money -> being able to provide for your family
But now, it sort of feels like everything's been shaken up. Grade inflation means that good grades in high school aren't sufficient to get into university, and then you see statistics like "15% of CS grads can't find jobs", and that makes me think "is university really sufficient to get a good job?" And then getting requests by randos on the internet to do contract work for their start-up or whatever, with no formal CS or programming knowledge, and a grade 8 education, because of my projects, for entry-level wages, makes me think that a university degree really isn't even necessary for a good job. On the other hand, you see the richest people being the ones that make a big start-up then get acquired, is a good job even necessary for lots of money?

Part of the point and usefulness is having a stable target for developers to aim at, that they can test performance on. Also, most phones these days are roughly equivalent from the end-user perspective to ones from 2 or 3 years ago, the only difference is increased waste. So... no, no thank you.

You don't have to buy it with each iteration, but at the same time if I'm buying one, I don't want to buy hardware that's many generations behind current one.
If I build a new PC myself - I don't have such problem. With laptops - it's a bit behind (usually one generation for AMD with their APUs approach). I don't think anyone complains that there is a choice.
And somehow above doesn't prevent games being released that can scale according to the hardware and aren't tied to a specific hardware generation target. So I don't really see why this has to dictate handhelds to have way slower refresh cycle.

Until the Steam Deck came out, I had no hope of playing a game like Sekiro. And even then, the machine I built to play Seikro would not then have also played the second Spiderman game, because those are different console generations.

In theory, sure. In practice... just look at pretty much all software out there and you will be proven wrong. Every. Single. Time.
In this specific instance the code he built used a non-human lactase-enzyme producing gene, which he states in the retrospective is very likely the reason why his immune cells started attacking. There was also the matter of some of the other coding pieces being non-ideal.
Agree with you on that, it was my concern too, but the way I think about it is access to information, the goal is not to provide hallucinations with a straight face (aka GPT), but rather use it as a way to extract necessary information fast. For instance, I have a built-in RAG that reads of growing collection on books on medical, survival, etc. (https://github.com/dmitry-grechko/waycore-knowledge) that AI agent is using to answer questions. Moreover, it has a built-in safety loop to always inform users on the accuracy of the information, but also if the information request has an impact on health & safety, it will warn users about it too.
So, I certainly see the inherited risk and problems, but mostly think about it as a means of information extraction
