By TDS do you mean people disgusted by the 4x indicted rapist ex us president? And that that disgust has somehow morphed into a dislike for a south african immigrant who became the wealthiest man in America?

Acquiring cancer to lose weight.

It's a viable strategy.

I've always felt incredibly sympathetic toward Charlie Brown and often pondered what message Charles Schultz was trying to convey with that trope.

What made Lucy like that?! I often think of the trope in the context of US politics, and specifically progressive capitulation to capital. I find it one of the darkest and yet prescient parts of Schultzes lore.. (Snoopy being an adult with a long, colorful history yet still treated as a dog, being another)

I agree. This is game changing. I've spent 30 years doing the same kind of operations manually over and over in windows file manager, cursing every time that the machine should know what I'm doing by now..

I asked chatgpt about the api for an old programming game called chipwits.. it invented a whole programming language that it called chiptalk with an amalgam of the original chipwits stuff, missing some bits and adding others, and generated a parser for it, which I implemented and got to work, before figuring out how much was imaginary, after talking to the original chipwits devs. They found it pretty amusing.

> and got to work

Can you elaborate?

Aidea: a chatgpt query builder that you feed a snapshot of your online discourse, the surrounding contexts and it tries to find things like hypocrisy/ class/culture blindness, in how you communicate.. or think.

Incredible article. Really brought mack some memories and connected a bunch of threads that have wound through my life.. especially with the hologram stuff and Santa Cruz, the national geo hologram covers and beyond.. the mention of grass valley group.. I was literally next door in Nevada city when I read the article! Cool stuff!

Or maybe SEO has gotten more adversarial.

SEO has been around since the birth of Google, which nevertheless provided stellar results for years.

If SEO didn't exist, it would have to be invented for air cover.

I did SEO for my employer not long after the birth of Google (someone even posted the story to HN, I think). What I did was staggeringly primitive compared to what I saw at another company in 2015.

It's not really surprising to me that the search engines have problems with SEO nowadays. The things that consultant told us to do in 2015… >50% of it was helpful for the users, as far as I can read users' minds from their searches and clicks, and 100% of it was intended to make it more difficult for Google to sort the better pages from the worse by making them all seem better.

That's already here with NeRF

Can NeRF generate it’s own output (say from from a text prompt)? I thought it used image/video input

Most consumer machines have a literal supercomputer sitting mostly idle as you browse the web. Css is slow because it was designed for cpus and css doesn't map to gpus very cleanly. But Webgl/webgpu enable some incredible things.
