Remember Steve Job's vision for Apple has always been a closed system end to end... He was security minded before the net. It is a shame that the government has taken the low road by trying this case in the court of public opinion after they permanently locked themselves out of the iphone! The worse part is using the grieving victim's families to make Apple look like the bad guys. I kind of wish Job's was alive for this fight! Tim Cook can't say it, but 14 people killed by some kooks vs millions of people's safety being intentionally compromised is not a bargain. 14 people die in mass shooting Damn near every month! What happened to good police work? Doesn't the NSA have everyone's communication data on a server somewhere anyway? If the government in the business of ordering businesses to work against their interest for the sake of public safety, where is the court order for tobacco companies to permanently stop selling cigarettes. Cigarettes kill hundreds of thousands of people each year. Luckily Apple is sitting on enough cash to fight this... I just hope their stock price and future aren't hurt by this deliberate attempt to assassinate their brand.
> the government has taken the low road by trying this case in the court of public opinion
But they're not.. They're trying the case in front of unelected justices. The court of public opinion would be to create a law with Congress, and give us a chance to elect people who will represent our views.
i agree. Hurry-Up Syndrome and inadvertent flights into IMC are 2 of the biggest causes. Pilots should always be extremely cautious and well prepared. Safety is paramount at all times.
Happy to hear, especially after exiting an industry that prides itself on how much you can spend and how little work you can accomplish! BTW, I took you up on your offer and zipped out an email. Thanks for posting!
Musk is drawing a clear line in the sand between the new school and the old school... I guess Apple is now Big Blue and Musk just threw a sledge hammer at Tim Cook on the screen?
I agree, it's merely bravado since Apple is now building a car concept. ( I suspect Apple may buy a car company or perhaps write a $50-billion check for VW with their $200-billion in cash reserve. Idea inspired by this article: http://rosskaplan.com/2015/09/four-reasons-why-apple-should-... )
VW has just demonstrated that they're very bad at engineering, resorting to cheating in order to create a marketable product. That is the antithesis of Apple. Buying VW would be a terrible move.
Definitely a poor culture fit. Sort of like the story Airbnb CEO Chesky has told about not buying the Samwer bros copycat site in Europe. If Apple is going to compete, they have to take their best and brightest offsite and let them dig in deep. Should be able to do it for $2b. But a HUGE upside if they get it right.
For some reason I just don't buy Michael Fassbender as Jobs... Unlike the portrayal of lesser known Mark Zuckerbeg in "The Social Network", we have all been exposed to Jobs, his unique look and mannerisms. I will reserve any further criticism until after viewing the movie, as I do enjoy Sorkin’s work.
After the collapse of Bell Labs and the inefficiencies at the University level, this is an effort that can truly impact change.
True fundamental innovation takes 15+years... stable ecosystems (govt policies, strong economies etc) are needed to foster this type innovation. YC is definitely a stable environment to foster fundamental inno.
Fundamental innovation also creates new methodologies in two or three areas, whether it be technology, market or implementation. Everything else is incremental innovation (new tech enhancing products in a known market), this can be achieved in 1 to 3 years. Kudos YC!
Happy to see someone who understands that pork barrel spending was THE currency Congressman had in order to secure votes needed for important bills. That is truly how compromise was achieved.
I find this issue to be crazy yet creatively stimulating at the same time... I have spent tons of hours trying to find alternative spellings of my startups in order to find available URLs. I just sit on the GoDaddy app searching. One thing I noticed is it seems that GoDaddy engages in squatting and reselling as "Premium" URLs...
