Everything is expensive, our president is the dumbest person to ever live, we're constantly at threat of random shootings, and did I mention everything is expensive?

People on the internet said the same things about W, and thought things couldn't get worse.

Oops.

People in Mexico are much poorer and the country has huge crime and corruption problems. Just the disappeared people and especially women alone are massively concerning and likely worse per capita than US school shootings. Yet somehow they are happier there.

I think it’s about momentum. The perception is that the US is in some ways getting worse and Mexico is getting better.

Who is better off, the software engineer who lost her $250k job and had to settle for a new job that pays $150k, or the teacher who found a new job and got a raise from $50k to $70k? The software engineer might be better off while simultaneously less happy about their situation.

No. Please try to be more intellectually honest.

Henry George has a fix for this issue.

Gazans are not being put onto railroad cars and shipped off to camps to be systematically exterminated in gas chambers.

right now , the israeli government is building a "moral concentration camp" for them in gaza atm where gazan will forced to go to or be shot on sight.

can you understand how that isn't any better than what the nazis did?

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/7/16/israel-presses-ahea...

So now when the targeted population is actually increasing, we can still call it a "genocide". And when there is no actual concentration camp we can say there is a "moral concentration camp". Stop getting your news from Al Jazeera, FFS.

> So now when the targeted population is actually increasing, we can still call it a "genocide".

Please show me where the targeted population is "increasing" over the last two years? is it because people from other areas are being forced to relocate and you guys call that a population increase?

Where should i get my news from? last I checked, 100+ journalists came out with a written statement about how higher ups at the BBC were preventing news critical of Israel from being broadcast on air. The concentration camp thing has been corroborated by several news sources including some from within Israel itself. Even CNN nowadays is starting to be critical of the genocide.

What other areas?

Do you have any standards at all for what the word genocide means? You want to get into the muck about whether the population has increased or decreased by some fractional or single digit percentages? All this demonstrates is that you want to twist the meaning of words to support whatever interpretation of events is in vogue with your tribe.

well it turns out that it in fact, has not grown since the war began

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2024/dec/06/instagram-...

but I mean, you guys also call amnesty international, the ICC, the BBC and reality itself antisemetic so believe whatever you want. the only "tribe" I'm in is the one where indiscriminate killing of innocent people is wrong.

Where do you think these data are coming from? You think the UN and Amnesty International have census takers going tunnel to tunnel in Gaza?

Why don't you reveal your standard for what a "genocide" is without discrediting the actual ongoing genocides in other places? Israel has got to be the most incompetent prosecutor of genocide in history.

about what I'd expect from you

They made their home a concentration camp, no need for railroad cars this time...

... They are starved and slaughtered in place instead.

I'm sorry you're being downvoted. Any comment right now on this thread that attempts to push back on the narrative is being downvoted unfortunately.

This is insane and offered up with zero sources.

Absolutely not.

I'm fairly certain this is how things have always been.

I'm fairly certain we had multiple big cultural shifts over the past decade and things are completely different now.

This is a bad-faith question and you know it.

I know no such thing. A high GDP per capita might not be required to have a thriving society in the modern world but surely there is a lower limit. It should be possible to at least roughly quantify that limit. Could we still have a thriving society if GDP was cut to, let's say, $10000 per person?

It's not a far stretch to assume that the framers did not want the president profiting off of the presidency. "Bribery" is one of the only "High Crimes & Misdemeanors" listed as impeachable crimes.

A normal Congress would not allow this behavior but this is the world we've been living in since 2016.
