Soon we'll have a popup before every individual show on Netflix asking us if we accept the cookies before we watch, all in the name of consumer protection
Cookie pops are malicious compliance to regulations that legitimately protect consumers. You’ve cherry picked one bad side effect to throw out all the ways the EU is way ahead of anyone else in protecting consumers, most of which you don’t even notice because it’s hard to notice harm that did not happen.
The great thing about this gravity storage system is how easy it is to scale. You just need a hill. Sure, it's not going to deliver the power of pumped hydro, but it's easier to build and much safer to operate. And it's certainly a better design than those concrete block tower designs you occasionally see which are just a windy accident waiting to happen
If you have a hill then you can just put a water tank at the top and bottom and a pipe with a pump and a generator in-between. Even if your rolling mass was iron, you would only need a tank 8x larger than your rolling mass in volume (2x per dimension) to be equal in storage. Much easier to build and safer than a 300 ton railcar barreling down a hill. Also scales better, has lower operating cost, has lower capital cost, and has less energy loss.
I do not know where you are in the world but in the homeland of the English language, Britain and most of its direct (former!) colonies, "petrol" is the stuff cars and motorbikes run on and "diesel" is the stuff agricultural vehicles and heavy plant (lorries, buses) runs on. "Gas" is a phase of matter along with "liquid", "solid", and "plasma" and that is all the bare noun means. "Natural gas", and the obsolete "coal gas"/"town gas", are fuels, but for heating/cooking/light not vehicles as a rule, but generally we'd talk about propane, butane, etc.
We never, ever use "gasoline" or the Germanic "benzene" for this. Benzene is a specific chemical here, never ever a fuel.
Sometimes an idea comes along thats so obvious it makes me angry. I have been struggling with ffmpeg commands for over well a decade. All the time I wasted googling and creating scripts so I wouldn't have to regoogle and this could have existed literally from day one
