Slightly offtopic but I find Apple maps to be way better than Google maps. Their lane by lane directions are amazing. Most of the time you don’t even have to look at the phone. Whereas google has their weird way of zooming in and out and often a bit late. My success rate of not missing a turn is way higher on Apple maps and than on Google maps.
So 10x engineers will replace normal engineers? Although this seems plausible, the advent of the 10 or 100x engineer isn't something new (and it didn't put millions of engineers out of work, although it created the biggest corporations to ever exist).
Yup. The best bet is the handlebar bag with clear pouch and a cheap $100 android phone with offline google maps. I am personally using a Samsung Galaxy which I bought it from fb marketplace.
Fortnine recently recommended grabbing a used Sonim phone (https://www.sonimtech.com/) to use as a motorcycle mounted phone. They're designed for EMS workers, so they're waterproof and have mappable physical buttons so you can use key functions with gloves on.
I was thinking of grabbing a cheap phone for this, but still attached to the handlebars. If it's sunny, the phone would probably get too hot and shut off in a pouch, especially since my motorbike has a big enough fairing that mounting the pouch in the wind wouldn't be practical.
Unproductive work is a financial drain, wouldn't it help investments to cut it? (We do have the problem of defining what's productive, though)... Economic calculation problem.
No. Those "unproductive" workers spend their money which ends up driving labor growth because of the services and goods they pay for. If every company got rid of the "unproductive" workers and all the inefficiency, you'd have wide swaths of really unproductive unemployed who are unable to contribute to the economy in any way, as well as all the "saved" money going towards the wealthy.
In good faith, can you respond to Terr_'s comment above then?
1. Who is doing the funding?
2. How are they doing the funding?
3. What message are they spreading, and what proof do you have the message has an effect?
Calling it a conspiracy theory does not mean it is instantly wrong, but it is a correct label - the accusation is hidden (or perhaps not, apparently it's obvious) wealthy foreign funders controlling American society. If that doesn't look like a conspiracy theory (which again, does not mean it's wrong immediately!), then I don't know what you expect.
For me, they are more miss than hit. I was amazed in the initial days but I have bounced back to searching from google and reading stackoverflow. It’s not just about finding solution for your problem, it’s also looking at what other options are there and comparing them mentally is a really good exercise. You learn a lot by that way. The comments and not accepted solution are also invaluable.
Yup. I personally have to spend a lot of energy to concentrate in team meetings because my brain keep telling me that I can ignore some information here and there and get back to it whenever I need it using the replay and rewind. Most of the meetings are not recorded. I actively have to keep check on this reflex of my brain learned from Youtube and Netflix.
